A three-car crash just north of Keizer Wednesday evening killed one person and left another injured.

According to a news release from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to an accident by Egan Gardens on the 9800 block of River Road NE around 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 30.

Deputies determined Lloyd Penner of Dallas, 86, was slowing his 2013 Cadillac and preparing to make a left hand turn into Egan Gardens but turned in front of a southbound Scion tC driven by Salem’s Adan Ortiz-Juarez.

After those two vehicles collided, they careened into a Toyota Camry driven by Julie Huster of Salem, 54. Huster was waiting to leave Egan Gardens.

Lavaughn Penner, the 85-year-old wife of the Cadillac’s driver, was in the front passenger seat and was killed in the accident. Lloyd Penner was injured, while neither of the other drivers received injuries.

Airbags deployed in the Scion and Cadillac, which ended up on its side. All involved in the accident were wearing their seatbelts.

The three vehicles were towed from the scene and deputies are investigating whether any of the drivers will be charged for driving offenses.
