W. DeBeck

Ward Foster DeBeck, a long-time pastor and civic volunteer, passed away on March 9.  He was 100 years old.

DeBeck, was born to Edwin and Mae DeBeck, on November 12, 1913, in Vancouver, B.C. He grew up in the Marpole neighborhood of Vancouver and  graduated from the University of British Columbia. He served as a chaplin in the Royal Canadian Navy, stationed in Halifax and Victoria. He served as a minister his entire life; he worked in Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, California and Washington state.

He married Marion E. Whebby in the 1940s.

DeBeck moved to Keizer in 1979 to be close to his aunt, Leanor DeBeck.

While living in the area DeBeck was a member of the Keizer Rotary Club; he worked at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Salem. He volunteered for the Woodcutters, a St. Paul’s  group that cut and donated firewood to those in need.

Survivors include four sons, and many grand- and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marion, brothers Denis, Keary, Fred and sisters Nedra Marshall and Besty Henderson.

Services will held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 15, at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 1444 Liberty St. S.E.

Funeral arrangements were handled by Virgil T. Golden Funeral Services.
