Vera Mae (Downie) Hall, 86, was born in Springston, Idaho to Julia and Roy Downie.

Vera was the second of three children. The family moved to Wheeler, Oregon in the 1930s where the children grew up.

Vera married David (Dave) A. Hall in Wheeler in April 1946. Vera and Dave moved to Timber where they had three daughters; Sally, Rosealee and Nancy. The family moved to Springfield in the late 1950s. Dave continued his lifelong employment with Southern Pacific Railroad. Vera went to work for the Springfield School District as a cook.

In 1969 Dave, Vera and Nancy moved to Tillamook. Dave died in 1973 and Vera moved to Bay City. When Vera’s daughters moved to the Willamette Valley, she relocated to Salem. Vera worked in various jobs but her primary job was being a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Vera’s great joys were her extended family, cooking and gardening. Vera taught
many in her family about gardening, baking, candy making and a variety of cooking techniques. Vera greatly enjoyed spoiling her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, leaving a legacy of love.

Vera was preceded in death by her parents Roy Downie and Julia Davis, husband Dave Hall, siblings Chuck Downie and Dorothy (Downie) Moores and son-in-law Rick Downie.

A memorial service will be held for Vera at a later date. Donations in Vera’s honor may be made to the Disabled Veterans of America. Arrangements entrusted to Keizer Funeral Chapel and Cremation Services.
