Donald Murdick Carmichael, 85, of Keizer, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Wednesday, November 27, 2013.
He was the oldest of three children, born December 24, 1927 in Portland to Walter and Beatrice Carmichael.
Don attended Milwaukie High School in Milwaukie. He played football, sang in choir, and was active in both the art and bible clubs. In 1946, Don joined the Navy where he served as a cook on an aircraft carrier, and had a 47-0 boxing record. After the Navy, he moved back to the Northwest, found work and started a family. He was a member of the Keizer Elks and Lions Clubs, as well as the Salem Foresters. Don enjoyed fishing, hunting, sports and spending time with loved ones.
Don is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Walter Jr. and Sandy, and youngest son David.
Don is survived by his wife Delight Koho Carmichael, sons Barry (Glenda), Brian and Donald Jr. (Sondra) Carmichael, grandchildren Matthew (Anna), Nathan, Brianna, and three great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his step-children Dennis (Lori) and Scott (Linda) Koho, Karyl (Ron) Allen, six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. on December 6, 2013 at Avamere Court in the main residence building. Avamere Court is located at 5210 River Road N. Keizer, OR, 97303. The number is (503) 393-3624.
