Volcanoes’ Senior Marketing Executive Jerry Howard was honored as the Leupold Hometown Hero for his military service and service to Oregon veterans at the Portland Trailblazers game Monday, Nov. 11.

The program, sponsored by Leupold & Stevens, Inc., recognizes local Oregonians for their service to the country, state, and community. Howard was the first honoree within the program.

Howard was recognized during the second quarter of the Blazers’ win over the Detroit Pistons. Howard joined the U.S. Air Force out of high school and served from 1961 to 1965. Howard was stationed 80 miles north of San Antonio on former president Lyndon B. Johnson’s ranch. In recent years, Howard has led the Volcanoes’ tributes to veterans that take place during games around the Fourth of July.
