A Tualatin teenager was arrested in Keizer Monday afternoon after fleeing a car he stole.
Shortly past 1:30 p.m. on Sept. 23, Keizer Police Department officer David Zavala located a four-door 1998 Honda Civic near the intersection of Wheatland Road North and Wheatland Lane North reported stolen from Tualatin shortly after 8 a.m.
When Zavala spotted the Honda, the two males inside fled the vehicle.
Several officers in both marked and unmarked vehicles responded and established a perimeter in the north Keizer area. Shortly before 2 p.m., officers located and detained the 15-year-old male passenger. The juvenile, who lives in Tigard, was taken into custody without incident and was charged with one count of conspiracy.
While officers continued to search for the driver, described as a Hispanic male wearing a black or dark blue sweatshirt and khaki pants, a K-9 team from the Salem Police Department was called to assist.
At 2:39 p.m., a Salem K-9 located the suspect hiding near a residence in the 7000 block of Cedar Falls Court North. The male was identified as 18-year-old Julio Mina from Tualatin. Mina was bitten by the K-9 after attempting to flee once spotted by the dog. He was treated for non-life threatening injuries and transported to Salem Hospital.
Mina was arrested and charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle and interfering with a police officer. Additional charges for both suspects could be forthcoming.
Anyone with additional information about the incident is asked to contact Officer Zavala at 503-390-3713 ext. 3512.
