Father Gary Zerr admits he had trouble focusing on work at St. Edward Catholic Church earlier this year.

It happened in the spring when the large wooden arches of the church’s new facility first went up.

People from miles around could see the arches gracing the skyline. Zerr had a birds’ eye view from just a few feet away.

“It was cool to see the arches exposed like that,” Zerr said last week while giving the Keizertimes a tour of the new $4 million building. “It was exciting to see them go up. It was hard to concentrate at work that week.”

The arches have since been covered up – good news a couple of weeks ago when heavy rain hit Keizer.  Zerr noted crews worked until 10 p.m. the night before making sure things were covered up. When the building is finished, the arches will be illuminated by LED lights and will be visible along River Road.
