Chamber luncheon serves up local, regional food

Tuesday’s Keizer Chamber Luncheon Forum emphasized local food – and freshness.

The monthly luncheon, held at McNary Restaurant and Lounge, featured local corn, peaches, burgers, buns and chips.

Christine Dieker, executive director of the Keizer Chamber of Commerce, did her part to make sure the food was fresh.

“At 10:30 this morning Bob Zielinski picked 50 ears of corn for us,” Dieker said as the luncheon started an hour later. “Then I went up the road and got some fresh peaches at Jones Farms Produce.”

David Zahradnik, owner of McNary Restaurant, noted the hamburgers were made in Eugene with Ninkasi Brew infused and served with chips.

“The squirrely fries were made here in house,” he said.

Burgers were placed on buns made that morning by the Keizer Big Town Hero, owned by Scott White.

“We made 65 buns for this, plus the 300 loaves we make every day for the store,” White said. “I think it’s a great idea to showcase other farm fresh products. I’m excited to try the locally grown meat and the local produce on the burgers.”
