Expect to see some changes next year to the Keizer Sunday Market.

Heck, market director Tina Schneider is just hoping more people will be able to see the market next year.

Schneider was the main force behind Salem Saturday Market adding the Keizer market this year. Initially the plan was for the market to run until Labor Day weekend; however, plans changed late and the market wrapped up last weekend.

“It was a little bit of a mixed bag,” Schneider said. “Keizer was supportive of the market. However, maybe the negative was the location.”

The market was open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sundays in the Chalmers Jones Park, behind Keizer Civic Center along Chemawa Road

“It just wasn’t visible,” Schneider said. “We could have gotten more participation from the community and vendors if, say, we were at a more visible location on River Road. That’s the direction our long-range planning commission will have. We do have some ideas.”

Schneider noted the visibility issue wasn’t anticipated.

“We went in with the idea that was going to be the market’s location, with the amount of space to use and the parking,” she said. “In the end, it was just not visible enough. People would drive by on Chemawa and not know it was there.”
