The McNary High School varsity football team will face its first test of the season in a home game with the North Medford Black Tornadoes.

The Celts will also be seeking a bit of retribution for a last-second loss when the teams met last year. Kickoff is 7 p.m. at McNary Friday, Aug. 30.

“They’ve got to be in a similar position as us with a second-year coach, and a lot of returning players.  In recent history, the program hasn’t been strong, but I think they could be pretty good this year, and I’m excited to have the opportunity to play them,” said Isaac Parker, McNary head coach.

For McNary, the game will be an opportunity to see if the gains they made last year in becoming a run-first team have held through the off-season. A packed camp earlier this month bodes well in addition to a roster filled with players who have lost fewer games than their predecessors.
