McNary High School’s football program is hosting its second annual Blue Day Saturday, Aug. 24.

The all-day event will feature demonstrations by Keizer-based Pop Warner football teams, McNary football teams, the Celtic band and the Celtic cheering squad.

“Last year, we kept the event to those involved with the programs, but this year we are inviting the whole community to come out and show their Celtic Pride,” said Isaac Parker, head coach of McNary football.

Blue Day will kick off with a Courthouse Athletic Club Spartan workout at 8 a.m. that will double as a fundraiser for the Celtic spaghetti moms. The suggested donation is $5 or a box of dry pasta.

Pop Warner demonstrations will begin at 10:30 a.m. and are expected to finish around noon. After presentation of the colors by McNary’s Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps, the freshmen and junior varsity teams will take the field.

The McNary band and cheerleading squads will take center stage for halftime performances and then the varsity team will scrimmage to complete festivities. Throughout the day, barbecue lunches will be available for $4 a plate. Proceeds will benefit the McNary Athletic Booster Club.

The McNary Turf Club will be on-site selling yard signs to bolster the group’s effort to install an artificial turf field at McNary.

The event is sponsored by Marion County Fire District No. 1.
