The Volcanoes made it two in a row at Everett Memorial Stadium on July 5, beating the Northern Division leaders 4-1.

All the runs came on extra-base hits: a leadoff home run by the AquaSox’s Jamodrick McGruder in the first inning, a two-run homer by Sam Eberle in the sixth and a two-run double by Geno Escalante in the sixth. McGruder’s homer was his first of the season.

Starting pitcher Andrew Leenhouts ran his record to 3-0, striking out four and allowing four hits and no bases on balls in his five innings. Eduard Encinosa had his first save.

Salem-Keizer’s first threat came in the second. Elliott Blair singled with one out, stole second base after another out and continued to third on an error by shortstop Jack Reinheimer.  However, Everett starter Thyago Vieira struck out the next batter.
