It didn’t take long to realize Tuesday Mayor Lore Christopher likes where Keizer is headed.

Christopher gave her State of the City Address during Tuesday’s Keizer Chamber of Commerce luncheon at Keizer Renaissance Inn.

She started by pointing to new housing and businesses.

“Are we better off this year than last year?” Christopher asked rhetorically. “By new permits, we are. Building permits are up 22 percent. We’ve gone from 147 residential and commercial building permits last year to 180 this year, and we’re trending to be more than that in this next year.”

In terms of business, Christopher pointed to recently started businesses, many of which are along River Road such as Birdie’s Bistro, Nancy’s Burgers and Fries, Growl Movement, Pastabilities and expansion at The Maze.

“Rumors of River Road’s death were highly exaggerated,” the mayor said. “We had heard for eight years how Keizer Station would kill River Road. Well, just the opposite happened. Success builds success.”
