No matter how well the debut year of the Keizer Sunday Farmers Market goes, it will not be a banner year.

The market, being put on by Salem Saturday Market, launches this Sunday, June 2. The market runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Chalmers Jones Park, behind Keizer Civic Center at 930 Chemawa Road N.

“We are ready and we’re very excited,” said Tina Schneider, who is running the new market. “We’ve been doing a lot of planning and checking out the site. We’re making sure the i’s are dotted and the t’s are crossed. We have 45 vendors signed up. We’re expecting a good opening weekend.”

Schneider, who will be at the market with her wood fired pizza, noted vendors will be selling items ranging from produce to lemonade to Mexican food.

“We have a nice selection of people coming,” she said. “We’re not heavy on any one type of product. We’ll probably have some strawberries. We’ll have balloons for the kids. It will be a nice afternoon. We’re extremely excited about it.”
