Chemawa Road North currently features plenty of orange.

It will soon look different.

The Oregon Department of Transportation project to upgrade the road from River Road to Keizer Rapids Park is finally going to be done.

Lou Torres, public affairs specialist for ODOT, said the project should be started on or about June 1. In recent months, preparation work has been done to get the road ready, including cutting and trimming trees as needed.

“The street should look quite impressive and significantly improved with new sidewalks, bike lanes, planter strips, lighting and biofiltration systems that will blend in well,” Torres said.

While the project adds new sidewalks and trees, perhaps the most noticeable improvement will be the new signal being installed at Delight Street and Celtic Way, at the entrance to McNary High School.
