A new member of the Keizer City Council should be in place next month.

On Monday evening, councilors formally approved the process that will be used to replace Ken LeDuc, who announced his resignation on May 10. Councilors met in a special meeting May 15 to accept the resignation of LeDuc, who had taken over Brandon Smith’s former spot in last November’s election.

The resignation immediately led to speculation of Smith vying to regain his seat. Smith, now a member of the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board, joined the race late last fall as a write-in candidate.

In an e-mail to the Keizertimes May 17, Smith noted a “tremendous number” of people had been urging him to apply for the position, but he wouldn’t be.
