A sense of urgency carried the McNary High School varsity baseball team to a strong finish in Central Valley Conference games, but it didn’t see the team through a play-in opportunity that could have launched the team into the state playoffs.

The Celtics faced Sunset High School in the play-in round Tuesday, May, 14, and fell 4-0.

In the early going, the Celts were making contact with the ball, but pop flies and line drives hit right at Sunset’s defense kept McNary from putting men on base. McNary had only three hits to Sunset’s eight.

McNary ended its run through the Central Valley Conference on a high note last week, taking an 8-0 win over North Salem High School.
