A council candidate for 2014 race

To the Editor:

On Wednesday the Keizer City Council declared a vacancy of Position #2 following the resignation of Councilor Ken LeDuc.  The position will be filled as a mid-term appointment by the remaining members of the council.  In the past few days, a tremendous number of people have urged me to apply for this position.  I appreciate their confidence and support.

After my council term ended in January, I was appointed to the Parks Advisory Board.  There is a tremendous amount of energy and enthusiasm at the Parks Board right now.  A small increase in funding has allowed the board to recommend action in a number of areas, most notably the replacement of a dilapidated play structure at Willamette Manor Park in west Keizer.  Later this month, I will join other community members on the Keizer Rapids Park Community Build Task Force to develop another first-rate amenity for our kids.

I look forward to continuing my service to the community and plan to run in the 2014 election for City Council position #6, currently held by Councilor Jim Taylor, who has informed me he will not seek re-election.  Jim has served our community well and deserves our thanks.

I wish all the best to the current, and future, councilors.  It’s not an easy job, but one that is vitally important.

Brandon Smith
