A Monday afternoon fire is causing heavy damage at Apple Blossom Apartments.

Officials with Keizer Fire District and Keizer Police Department closed Apple Blossom Avenue N between River Road N and 2nd Avenue N around 3 p.m. Monday, May 13.

Additional firefighting units were still arriving an hour later.

There were no reports of injury at the scene. It appears the fire may have started in trees just west of the apartment complex, blown to the west side of the building by the wind.

“The fire is in attic space between the apartments and the roof,” KFD chief Jeff Cowan said on the scene. “That’s making it difficult to reach.”

No damage estimate was immediately known.

Chuck Fisher, owner of the apartment building, said the fire appeared to be contained to the west side of the building. Firefighters attacked the fire from both above and below as they attempted to contain it.
