The McNary High School girls doubles team of Sandy Childress and Alex Henriques da Silva earned a No. 2 seeding in the Central Valley Conference district meet earlier this week.

Childress said she was hoping for a second chance at Sprague’s Mackenzie Fraser and Lauren Mann, who dealt the McNary pair a loss in the final match of league play Thursday, May 2.

“We played aggressively, but we weren’t very consistent and I think we could beat them with another shot at it,” Childress said. The Lady Celts lost in straight sets of 6-1 and 6-4, but a rematch remained a possibility if the girls won a semifinal match Wednesday past press time.

Mark Kohley, McNary head coach, said Childress and Henriques da Silva made up for a slow start in the second set.

“They played them virtually even in the second set, but both teams are two of the best in the valley,” he said.
