For the most part, things went smoothly at the first budget committee meeting of the season May 2.

Except for discussion of a new position for the Keizer Civic Center, that is.

City Manager Chris Eppley has proposed adding an Events Center Coordinator position, which would handle some of the duties currently held by city recorder Tracy Davis. The initial figures showed the position costing $63,900, including benefits.

Revised figures were shared during Tuesday’s budget committee meeting.

The hope is the events coordinator can get enough events at the civic center to more than offset the cost of the position.
