Could a parks district be in Keizer’s future?
The idea of forming one was briefly discussed during the April 9 Keizer Parks and Recreation Advisory Board meeting.
Richard Walsh, chair of the Parks Board, pointed out such a district is fairly common around Oregon.
“If we create a district, it becomes a separate entity,” Walsh said. “It’s like Keizer Fire District. It gets them out of (the city) budget. Many departments have gone to this model.”
Among other things, Walsh said such a district would help Keizer’s general fund budget.
“Money spent on parks now could be spent towards other things,” he said.
