A Keizer mom is asking for the community to help support her son.

Misty Fragua has entered her 20-year-son Fernando – or Nando – Gallegos into a national competition for a minivan equipped to handle wheelchairs. The van is being given away by the National Mobility Equipment Dealers Association, as part of May being National Mobility Awareness Month. The person with the most votes is the winner, with a May 25 deadline. People can vote daily. Nando’s particular page to vote at is http://www.mobilityawarenessmonth.com/entrant/fernando-gallegos-keizer-or/.

Fragua said her firstborn child contracted meningitis/encephalitis when he was two weeks old. That led him to being diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy at the age of six months and the diagnosis he would never walk.
