Emily Engel usually doesn’t have to go far to see family.

Engel, owner of American Country Mercantile at 8030 Wheatland Road N. in Keizer, is surrounded by family at the craft consignment shop she took over two years ago.

“My mom helps me, my dad helps me and my mother-in-law helps me,” Engel said on a recent day, with smiling mom Sue Ansel close by. “It’s a family affair. All of the vendors love them.”

Engel used to have space in the store for five years when it was The Girl’s Back Porch. In late 2010, she bought the business from Dawn Davidson and Char Bachle, changing the name in the process.
