Richard Llanos was hooked on B-boy culture the moment Ricky “Wone” Sanchez showed him one of his flares, a dance move that involved him balancing his entire weight on just his arms.

“I was mesmerized. It was a life-changing moment for me and it influenced me for the best,” Llanos said.

The pair along with Estivel “Woods” Martinez are now hoping to bring B-Boy Culture to a wider audience with the first McNary High School B-boy battle, “Know Your Roots.” The street dance battle expected to draw about 40 B-boy crews from around the Pacific Northwest is slated for April 6 from 5 to 10 p.m. at McNary, 595 Chemawa Road NE.
