The McNary High School varsity track and field teams overwhelmed the Sprague High School Olympians in an icebreaker meet last week.

The boys took down the Olys 81-61 while the girls took a 81-54 victory.

“We have about two athletes in every event coming back from last year and it’s going to give us a good foundation to build on with about 90 freshmen and sophomores coming out for the sport this year,” said Frank Gauntz, McNary head coach.

In addition to a core of returners–more than a few of whom have experience from the 2012 state meet as sophomores–the ranks of sprinters and throwers have grown beyond expectation this season.
