A past councilor objected, but current Keizer City Councilors unanimously agreed Monday to form a member complaint procedure task force.

The idea for the task force was brought up by Mayor Lore Christopher last week following an interaction between council Ken LeDuc and Larry Barz, parent of an Eagle Scout, on March 6. Details of the interaction were in last week’s Keizertimes. Christopher apologized to Barz for LeDuc’s behavior in a March 9 e-mail, then shared details with councilors – including LeDuc – for the first time on March 11.

After the topic was brought up that evening, city attorney Shannon Johnson put together a resolution for this week’s meeting, calling for a three-member task force to investigate such complaints. As amended, the task force would include the mayor, council president Joe Egli and councilor Dennis Koho, the former mayor who is also an attorney.

Johnson said the task force will recommend procedure to the council, which can establish procedure policy if so desired.
