The McNary High School varsity softball team may have a 1-3 record after four games, but it’s worth noting that three of their opponents were ranked in the top 10 in the state for their divisions.

“It was a tough week in some respects, but even when we were down the girls didn’t stop fighting,” said Kevin Wise, McNary head coach.

As evidence, he offered up the Celts’ most recent match with Central Catholic High School Monday, March 18. Despite trailing the Rams, the Lady Celts managed to put runners on bases in the late innings. McNary lost 8-3.

“They kept fighting and the hits started coming together,” Wise said. “We have been leaving a lot of girls on base, but I think it has a lot to do with our maturity. We are a young team, but we’ve also had moments of great aggressiveness.”
