The McNary High School boys varsity tennis team dominated Central High School in its opening match of the season last week and then fell to Lake Oswego and Canby high schools on the courts.

“Their footwork is much better this season, which is key because the movement on the court is important. They’re focusing in practice more and they need to practice how they are going to play,” said Lisa Reid, McNary head coach.

In the Central match, March 12, the Celts swept doubles competition and took a 5-3 win over the Black Panthers.

Aaron Wenning was the sole victor in singles competition. He won in straight sets of 6-2 and 6-1.

Eddy Aguilar and Eli Purser won in straight sets of 6-4; Gary Gao and Jay He won in consecutive 6-3 sets; Jose Loureda-Barranco and Zach Staley won in sets of 6-2 and 6-4; and Joaquin Bell-Uribe and John Reid won in sets of 6-2 and 6-1.
