When Keizerite Martha Letarte realized her Kickstarter campaign needed a video, she set up her laptop to record one and put it high enough that the viewer wouldn’t see the brush in her hands.
“I needed to have something in my hands so that they weren’t flying all over the video. I ended up breaking off a half dozen of the teeth because I was so nervous,” LeTarte said.
The sort of forthrightness required of LeTarte to make a pitch for her project, an art book featuring 70 painted and illustrated panels telling a larger story, was exactly what she hoped to avoid when it came to raising the funds for it on Kickstarter.
She needs $4,400 to make the book a reality and turned to the website kickstarter.com to raise the money. Kickstarter is a website where the philanthropic-minded can peruse and donate to specific projects. If the project meets its overall goal, credit cards are charged and the funds go to the artist to help make it happen.
