It’s fair to say Prakhong Sookyanudith has been living a dream lately.
Two months ago he married wife Gift.
In January, the couple took over Thai Cuisine at 4140 River Road N. in Keizer and rebranded it Sweet Home Thai Cuisine.
Prakhong had previously been at a restaurant in Newport, but when he and his new bride saw Thai Cuisine, they fell in love.
“It’s like a dream,” he said. “People come and I sit them in my house. The first time I saw it, it hit my eye. The first time I saw it, it made a dream come true.”
Gift felt the same.
“We really like it,” she said. “The building looks like a house. You want your neighbor to have a good meal at your home. That’s why we like it here.”
Prakhong was a chef in Hollywood for six years and was then in Newport for six years, where he was part-owner of a restaurant. Now he’s ready to put that experience to good use in a town new to him.
“This is my own place, 100 percent,” he said.
