The McNary High School boys varsity basketball team’s first league game of the season ended up a heartbreaking 72-70 loss in overtime to South Salem High School last week.

“It was our best all-around game of the year. We executed a game plan as well as we have all year, we shared the ball and trusted our teammates. We got to the fourth quarter and it was a couple of missed shots, a couple of missed calls, a couple of fouls and a couple of turnovers,” said Ryan Kirch, McNary head coach.

The Celtics flew to the ball on offense and defense in the first period and the teams were tied 15-15 at the buzzer. Scrappy defense gave the Celts a 33-29 edge headed into halftime.
