Keizer Fire eyed Salem Fire consolidation

Lean times call for outside-the-box thinking, which is why Keizer Fire District (KFD) and Salem Fire Department (SFD) participated in a study late last year looking at a possible consolidation of the two emergency services.

The study looked at the effects of combining the collective forces of the two entities, from service levels to staffing, but Keizer Fire Chief Jeff Cowan said the time simply isn’t right.
