The McNary High School girls varsity basketball team picked up its first win of the league play in a 66-36 victory over the North Salem Vikings Friday, Jan. 11.

“We mainly worked on man-to-man defense and that went well. Because of that we got to run through quite a few of our plays and we learned to run our plays a lot better in that game,” said Lady Celt Reina Strand.

The Celtics built up a comfortable 30-17 lead by halftime as the Vikings struggled to put points on the board from the field. More than two-thirds of North’s points came from the foul line in the first half.

“We were really aggressive and defensive strategy helped us stay on top of everything,” said Celt Aerial Rice.
