Junior Varsity swimmers see success

McNary High School’s JV swimmers took three first places and seven second places Dec. 13 in a meet with South Salem and Sprague JVs at the Kroc Center.

Coming in first were Ethan VanSell in the boys 200-yard freestyle, the boys 400-yard freestyle relay team and Jared Kelson in the boys 100-yard backstroke and 200-yard freestyle.

Placing second were the 200-yard and 400-yard girls freestyle relays, James Kelson in the boys 200-yard freestyle, Anthony Aguilar in the boys 100-yard individual medley and Blake Swearingen in the boys 50-yard and 100-yard freestyle.

VanSell’s time was 2:19.16, the boys 400 relay 4:21.91 and Jared Kelson 1:17.26. Relay swimmers were Aguilar, Swearingen, Evan Alger and VanSell. Their time was 4:21.91.

The girls 200 relay team of Morgan Kuch, Katelyn Ward, Jo Arnsmeier and Kendall Quihuis-Ramerez was timed at 2:17.19. The 400 relay team of Kuch, Mikaela Benson, Quihuis-Ramerez and Idaiana Valladares came in at 5:50.80.

James Kelson was timed at 2:22 in the 200 IM and 1:20.9 in the backstroke. Swearingen did the 50 in 27:06 and the 100 in 1:01.01, while Aguilar did the 100 in 1:18.77.

“The kids did really well,” McNary coach Kim Phillips said. “They have very little experience, and I entered them in the meet to get them some experience.”
