A four-vehicle crash at Chemawa and River roads sent two people to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries Wednesday afternoon – one in which police suggested a driver was heading into oncoming traffic.

According to Keizer Police, Marilyn Mueller, 72, was driving northbound in a southbound lane on River Road in a white 2007 Hyundai when she struck a 1997 Nissan pickup truck driven by Vincent De La Rosa, 47, who was attempting to turn left from Chemawa Road NE to head southbound on River Road.

The crash was reported at 2:23 p.m. A 1992 Pontiac driven by Jennifer Schwanke was behind the truck and hit it. The Pontiac spun about 170 degrees and hit a fourth vehicle, which was stopped in the left turn lane, waiting to turn westbound onto Chemawa Road.

Mueller and De La Rosa were transported to Salem Hospital. All four live in Keizer.

The incident shut down southbound lanes of River Road for about 30 minutes.
