Keizer City Councilor Cathy Clark is laying the groundwork for a possible mayoral bid – in 2012 or beyond.
Clark filed paperwork with the Oregon Secretary of State’s office this week that allows her to begin raising funds for an eventual run, but hasn’t committed to a 2012 candidacy.
“It’s something I’ve definitely considered because I’m so enthusiastic about the future of Keizer and excited about the opportunities,” Clark said, citing new development on River Road and Keizer Station. “I plan ahead and want to make sure I follow the rules.”
Mayor Lore Christopher, in her sixth term, has yet to say whether she’s running for re-election.
First elected in 2006, Clark is in her second term on the council. Her seat is up for re-election in 2014. She’s been the council’s go-to person on transportation, serving as chair of the Salem Keizer Area Transportation Study and vice chair of the Mid-Willamette Valley Area Commission on Transportation.
