A new northeast Keizer daycare is sounding the “all aboard.”

Little Blue Caboose Daycare, 2498 Aldine Court N.E., opened up its doors earlier this week. The daycare has space for six children with future expansion, up to 16 children, in the works.

“We want it to be an experience where the kids are asking, ‘Do I get to go to daycare?’ instead of ‘Do I have to go to daycare?’” said owner Maxine Armstrong.

Armstrong is running the daycare with daughters Chandra Griffith and Nakita White.

Care services are offered for children ages six weeks to 10 years. Hours are 6:30 a.m. to 5:45 p.m. All care providers have completed behavior and criminal background checks as well as infant CPR and first aid certifications.

“Eventually, we’ll have before and after schoolers and be set up to do some local transportation,” Armstrong said.

Breakfast, lunch and two snacks with an emphasis on healthy, natural, no preservative foods are provided each day.

The daycare, at a private home, includes a playroom, a kitchen that will double as a craft and school room, and a rest room with infant beds. Future plans include a converted garage that will allow Little Blue Caboose’s clients more freedom to run without the traditional damp Oregon weather dousing the fun. Outside play will be encouraged rain or shine.

Griffith is a certified nanny who will be helping prepare the youngest clients for kindergarten with work on ABCs, numbers, shapes and reading concepts.

“We really want to have time to deviate from the plan and have the flexibility that will spark imagination,” Armstrong said.

To schedule a visit, or for more information, call Armstrong at 503-463-7077, or Griffith at 503-990-3577. They can also be contacted through littlebluecaboose@comcast.net or www.bluecaboose.org where pricing information is available.
