City councilors last week approved an agreement for the Keizer Youth Sports Association to keep managing Keizer Little League Park.

The actual contract is still up for a vote at a January 2012 Keizer City Council meeting.

The leaders of KYSA and Keizer Little League also both said they were willing to work towards an agreement – perhaps by adopting individual fields for maintenance and upgrades – that could reduce KLL’s field usage costs.

The city will take on responsibility for vandalism at the park; something KYSA had to cover when vandals damaged facilities last year. The city’s insurance should cover any damage costing more than $1,000.

Kurt Barker, baseball program director for KYSA, asked councilors to add projects at the park to an ongoing list of needed upgrades and desired improvements throughout the city’s parks system. In turn, Clark suggested a work group with parks board members to facilitate just that.
