Keizer United (KU) is a local Community Progress Team made up of community members who care about children, youth, families and their community and are committed to doing something to make it a better place to live.

Our long term goal is to see neighbors and community working together to encourage and foster healthy children, families and neighborhoods. KU convenes people, organizations, churches and businesses in Keizer to work toward common goals for a healthy community. We collaborate with  service providers to help tailor services that meet the needs of the community or build on strengths within the community. Much of our work is done by partnering with and supporting efforts like Keizer Youth Peer Court, SE Keizer Community Center, Youth Services Team, Community Action Drug Prevention Network, Apple Blossom Summer Program, Foster Parent Night Out and Parenting Classes.

One of our biggest challenges is increasing our visibility in Keizer and letting the community know exactly what we do. We have a great group of board members and can be a very productive partner with groups/people who share in our vision and goals. We believe that with increased visibility our board membership will grow and along with that growth more ideas of how we can impact our community. As always, funding is a barrier to doing more of the good work that we love and strive to do.

We need opportunities in the community to network and share about Keizer United. We are also in need of an office space. Each month KU meets throughout the community in various locations.. We will continue to do that so that others can get to know us and so that we get a better understanding of the needs of the community. However, we don’t have an office that we can operate out of during the rest of the month. We also need grants and monetary donations that we can use towards our support of our great partners and the great work that they do.

Billy Cordero is chair of Keizer United.
